Collin Barber was introduced to Japanese poetry by Paul Hopkins, a  writer and photographer from Memphis, Tennessee.  They often visited the Mississippi River to write, and on one of these occasions Collin scribbled his first haiku-like poem.  Other attempts at writing haiku would come later after reading the works of the Japanese masters, and American writers such as Richard Wright and Jack Kerouac.

His work has appeared and/or is forthcoming in Acorn, Ambrosia, bottle rockets, Chrysanthemum, Clouds Peak, Frogpond, The Heron's Nest, Modern Haiku, Roadrunner, Simply Haiku, Vancouver Cherry Blossom Festival, Ash Moon Anthology, Eucalypt, Modern English Tanka, moonset, Notes From the Gean, Prune Juice, Ribbons, Rusty Tea Kettle, Shot Glass Journal, Tanka Splendor Awards, Haigaonline, Contemporary Haibun, Contemporary Haibun Online, Haibun Today, Magnapoets, Take Five: Best Contemporary Tanka, and The Red Moon Anthologies (2006-2009).  He is also one of the poets featured in A New Resonance 5: Emerging Voices in English Language Haiku.

Collin has spent the vast majority of his life in Memphis, Tennessee, where he is employed at a local hospital.  Recently, he has found a home in Marion, Arkansas.  He lives with his wife and two sons.
